چکیده

The steady groundwater flow of water to drains on a sloping bed is re-examined. Results from a number of solutions for the maximum watertable height (hm) for flow to drains on slopes are presented and compared with published HeleShaw model results and HYDRUS2D numerical model calculations. Numerical modelling shows that when the length of the slope (L)  < 50 m the ratio L/hm is affected by L (Figure1).

MODELING OF GROUNDWATER FLOW OVER SLOPING BEDS IN RESPONSE TO CONSTANT RECHARGE AND STREAM OF VARYING WATER LEVEL

This paper presents an analytical model characterizing unsteady groundwater flow in an unconfined aquifer resting on a sloping impervious bed. The aquifer is in contact with a constant water level at one end. The other end is connected to a stream whose level is increasing form an initial level to a final level at a known exponentially decaying function of time. Moreover, the aquifer is repleni...

The importance of hydraulic groundwater theory in catchment hydrology: The legacy of Wilfried Brutsaert and JeanYves Parlange

[1] Based on a literature overview, this paper summarizes the impact and legacy of the contributions of Wilfried Brutsaert and Jean-Yves Parlange (Cornell University) with respect to the current state-of-the-art understanding in hydraulic groundwater theory. Forming the basis of many applications in catchment hydrology, ranging from drought flow analysis to surface water-groundwater interaction...

On the use of the Boussinesq equation for interpreting recession hydrographs from sloping aquifers

[1] The method of recession analysis proposed by Brutsaert and Nieber (1977) remains one of the few analytical tools for estimating aquifer hydraulic parameters at the field scale and beyond. In the method, the recession hydrograph is examined as dQ/dt = f(Q), where Q is aquifer discharge and f is an arbitrary function. The observed function f is parameterized through analytical solutions to th...

Pseudo Steady State Gas Flow in Tight Reservoir under Dual Mechanism Flow

Gas reservoirs with low permeability (k<0.1 mD) are among the unconventional reservoirs and are commonly termed as "Tight Gas Reservoirs". In conventional gas reservoirs that have high permeability, the flow of gas is basically controlled by the reservoir permeability and it is calculated using the Darcy equation. In these reservoirs, gas flow due to gas diffusion is ignored compared to Dar...

A quasi three-dimensional model for flow and transport in unsaturated and saturated zones: 1. Implementation of the quasi two-dimensional case

A quasi three-dimensional (QUASI 3-D) model is presented for simulating the subsurface water flow and solute transport in the unsaturated and in the saturated zones of soil. The model is based on the assumptions of vertical flow in the unsaturated zone and essentially horizontal groundwater flow. The 1-D Richards equation for the unsaturated zone is coupled at the phreatic surface with the 2-D ...
